Care and Handling
All types are multi-branched with numerous relatively small flowers generally blue, white, yellow or various shades of pink. Aster is often used as filler in arrangements and bouquets.
Ethylene sensitive: It is not ethylene sensitive.
Grades
Fancy Grade 55 cm minimum 15 stems minimum 280 grams.
Select Grade 70 cm minimum 10 stems minimum 280 grams.
Some farms grade their asters only by weight. Make sure you know the stem count of the asters you purchase.
Packing
Foliage should be green and healthy with no blackening.
Should be shipped with 3 to 4 open blooms per stem.
Preparation
Even fairly tight cut asters develop and open well in warm water and floral preservative.
Remove foliage from the bottom 10 to 15 cm of stems.
Vase Live
(three days or fewer): 36-38 degrees Fahrenheit (more than three days): 32-34 degrees Fahrenheit
5 - 10 plus days (depending on species/cultivar)
