Also called American Cranberrybush Viburnum, American Cranberrybush, Kalyna or Highbush or High Bush Cranberry
Each corymb comprises a ring of outer sterile flowers 2-2.5 cm diameter with conspicuous petals, surrounding a center of small (5 mm), fertile flowers
Leaves are superficially similar to many maple leaves, most easily distinguished by their somewhat wrinkled surface with impressed leaf venation.
The bud scales are valvate.
The flowers are white, produced in corymbs up to 13 cm diameter at the top of the stems.
The fruit is an oblong red drupe 15 mm long and 12 mm broad, containing a single flat, white seed.
The leaf buds are green.
The leaves are opposite, three-lobed, 6-12 cm long and 5-10 cm broad, with a rounded base and serrated margins.
The stems arch and are very dense, and the twigs are a reddish-brown color.
Care and Handling
If you do not add floral preservative, change the water and re-cut the stems every day or so.
If you purchased your flowers ahead of time for a special event, cut the stems and place them in water (and floral preservative if you choose)
Place your flowers in an area away from direct sunlight until ready for your event. We also recommend cooler temperatures and high relative humidity if possible.
Preparation
Cut flower stem ends to create fresh surface to absorb water and remove any faded stem base.
Remove all foliage below the water line and place in a clean container filled with cool water and, optionally, floral preservative.
